Geographical Outdoor Practice
On the afternoon of 25th May, 2023, thirty students from Grade 10 visited Anqing Meteorological Bureau under the guidance of Jiang Zhengying, the teaching and research leader of the geography group of the Senior High School Division, as well as teachers Liu Kaiyuan and Gan Yuxin. Under the detailed explanation of the professional staff, the students learned a lot of knowledge and skills about meteorology, took notes carefully, and actively grasped the opportunity to put forward some puzzles and perplexities. Meanwhile, the staff at the Bureau of Meteorology answered the questions meticulously.
To begin with, the Bureau of Meteorology is a significant organization responsible for detecting and forecasting weather and providing weather services to protect public life and property.
Through this activity, the students learned how meteorologists collect and analyze weather data and convert it into meaningful weather forecasts. On the other hand, students learned about various instruments and technologies, such as weather satellites, radar and automatic weather stations, and how to use these instruments to obtain meteorological data. Furthermore, they also learned how weather affects people, why some areas are prone to catastrophic weather, and how to deal with these risks.
In addition, students learned about areas relevant to meteorology, such as climate change, air pollution, air quality and environmental protection, which are very important topics, because we need to know and protect our environment and life. Therefore, through this activity, students expanded their knowledge, developed their interest in science and nature, and enhanced their understanding of environmental protection and climate change. More noticeably, students greatly enhanced their interest in geography and benefited a lot.
